What Are The Pros And Cons Of Electric Rc Vehicles Versus Gas (or Glo) Engine Vehicles?

Posted on 22 October 2009

I’ve been wanting to get an RC vehicle, and for many years as a youth I was always interested in and THOUGHT that gas powered ones were better.
Now, however, I’ve been torn between the two decisions since I’ve been hearing and reading that electric is comparible nowadays to gas in every aspect.
Anyone in the hobby of RC vehicles care to elaborate or point me to a website that can help in a decision as to what to go with?
Thanks.

Although GP (Gas Powered) cars has the advantage of speed and being more entertaining to watch (especially the IFMAR races on Youtube), they have the disadvantage of being expensive compared to the electric counterpart. One advantage of EP (Electric Powered) is cost of running – with gas cars, you will have to constantly need to buy special model fuel, whereas EP cars, all you will need to do for fuel is the house power supply or in RC races as I have seen, the car battery.
If you want to go straight into racing, then EP would be the best starting point as GP car parts are expensive to replace if you crash them unless you have the driving ability of Masami Hirosaka or Lamberto Collari.

I can’t give you specifics but
I think the gas engines had more power.
Now I think they just make more noise.
Most all my airplane friends have switched
    to electric.

Gas rc’s are faster but you are always working on them. There are alot more in door places now that you can ran the electric cars and you can not ran indoors with gas.You get more for your money if you ran electric.

GP cars you can consistently run for longer periods of time and just refuel. For EP cars you would have to by a a few power cells and keep them charged at all times for the same effect. Although GP are more money, and due to speeds break easier.

electric is cheaper and quieter, but to me they just don’t cut it.
When I fly I want the sound as well as the look. Like actual gas turbine jet engines in jet models!!
SOME of my planes have ‘extended’ flight capabilities that would be hard to duplicate with electric, like 40+ minute flight times. Such as the ones I use to check on cattle by video without having to go “brush-poppin’” to find!
